In a strategic collaboration aimed at meeting the demands of contemporary port operations, the renowned Dutch Damen Group has joined forces with SCHOTTEL to outfit four new 1810-series ASD stock tugs with cutting-edge propulsion technology. The Damen Group’s latest venture seeks to address the evolving needs of the maritime industry by integrating proven solutions like the SCHOTTEL RudderPropeller (SRP) type SRP 270 into its compact tug designs.

The forthcoming multi-purpose tugs, boasting a compact size of just 18.25 meters in length and a beam of 10.23 meters, will be equipped with the SCHOTTEL RudderPropeller SRP 270, ensuring exceptional maneuverability and a bollard pull of 30 tonnes each. This collaboration represents a significant step forward in optimizing port operations, blending innovation with reliability to enhance efficiency and performance.

The SRP 270, with a power rating of 1,000 kilowatts per unit and a propeller diameter of 1.9 meters, embodies the pinnacle of propulsion technology. Each tug will feature two units of the SRP 270, augmented by SCHOTTEL DuroVario LS slipping clutches, facilitating smooth acceleration and precise handling of the thrusters. Notably, these slipping clutches can be seamlessly upgraded to support firefighting capabilities, further enhancing the versatility of the tugs.

Central to Damen’s design philosophy is a steadfast commitment to sustainability. The 1810-series tugs prioritize eco-friendly operations, featuring low noise emissions and vibrations. Moreover, an innovative electric power generation system eliminates the need for a third diesel generator during sailing, significantly reducing fuel consumption and bolstering the tug’s sustainability credentials.
