SKF Reduces Factory Emissions by 96% and Accelerates Carbon Neutrality Goals in Brazil 2

SKF has achieved a major sustainability milestone at its manufacturing facility in Cajamar, São Paulo, reducing carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by 96% compared to 2019 levels. The plant emitted 218.4 tonnes of CO₂ in 2025, down from 5,421.85 tonnes in 2019, placing the operation significantly ahead of the SKF Group’s global carbon neutrality target set for 2030.

The achievement is the result of continuous investments in industrial modernization and energy efficiency initiatives. SKF’s Brazilian operation focused primarily on reducing electricity consumption, which accounts for more than 90% of its Scope 2 emissions. Key measures included upgrading the facility’s lighting systems, modernizing compressors and compressed air networks, and conducting regular energy audits to identify further efficiency opportunities.

The company has also made significant progress in reducing Scope 1 emissions. In August 2025, SKF completely eliminated diesel usage at the Cajamar facility and is working towards eliminating LPG and methanol consumption by 2028. Additional improvements include replacing the entire fleet of fossil fuel-powered forklifts with electric models and enhancing the thermal efficiency of industrial furnaces. The adoption of renewable energy sources, including solar power, is currently being evaluated for future implementation.

According to SKF, advancing environmental targets is becoming increasingly important as customers across global supply chains now consider carbon inventories and sustainability performance when selecting suppliers. Beyond environmental benefits, these improvements also contribute to lower operating costs and increased operational resilience.

Fábio Matos, Cajamar Factory Manager and Country Managing Director for Brazil, stated that achieving carbon neutrality ahead of schedule reflects years of consistent investment in energy efficiency, industrial modernization, and emissions reduction initiatives. The company’s objective is to establish the Cajamar facility as a benchmark for sustainable manufacturing within SKF’s global operations.

This accomplishment reinforces SKF’s commitment to driving sustainable industrial transformation while supporting the global transition toward lower-carbon manufacturing practices.
