The expansion project involves the addition of a state-of-the-art logistics center spanning approximately 4,000 square meters. Despite a delay in the official ground-breaking ceremony, the symbolic event took place against the backdrop of the progressing shell construction.

With a total investment volume of €9.5 million, the expansion project is a significant endeavor for Schottel. The company plans to kick off operations in the first half of 2025, with construction work being efficiently managed by the general contractor Goldbeck.

The expanded facility will offer 2,634 square meters of industrial floor space, featuring advanced incoming goods processing systems, crane systems, and a fully automated warehouse. Concurrently, groundwork for the adjacent office wing, boasting 1,326 square meters of usable space, is underway, with construction set to commence in the spring.

Schottel anticipates the seamless integration of warehouse logistics, merging the current operations in Dörth with those of the spare parts business in Spay, which is approximately 30 kilometers away. This strategic move is expected to optimize operations and enhance efficiency in serving clients worldwide.

In 2024 alone, Schottel aims to manufacture over 350 large and small thrusters in Dörth for shipyards across global maritime hubs. Moreover, with orders pouring in for the Wismar plant, the company has over 500 propulsion systems slated for delivery until the end of the year.

Recognizing the growing demand for spare parts in after-sales service, Schottel aims to bolster availability for its thrusters, benefiting the approximately 10,000 ships worldwide equipped with Schottel propulsion systems.

Employees currently stationed at the service warehouse in Spay will transition to ultramodern workplaces at the new logistics center in Dörth. Meanwhile, personnel in commercial, technical, and industrial departments, along with administrative after-sales staff, will continue operations in Spay.

The expansion of the rudder propeller factory marks a significant milestone for Schottel, reaffirming its commitment to innovation, efficiency, and superior service in the maritime industry.
