Hapag-Lloyd Welcomes LNG Dual-Fuel Vessel BANGKOK EXPRESS

Hapag-Lloyd, a leading global liner shipping company, has officially welcomed its latest LNG dual-fuel container ship, BANGKOK EXPRESS, during a christening ceremony held on February 4th at the Hanwha Ocean Shipyard in South Korea.
The BANGKOK EXPRESS is the ninth vessel in Hapag-Lloyd’s Hamburg Express class, a series of twelve ultra-large container ships designed for improved efficiency and sustainability. Measuring 399 meters in length and boasting a capacity of 23,660 TEU, these vessels are the largest container ships ever to operate under the German flag. With three more ships still under construction, Hapag-Lloyd continues to strengthen its fleet with state-of-the-art vessels built for the future of global shipping.
The addition of BANGKOK EXPRESS underscores Hapag-Lloyd’s commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility. The company is actively working towards reducing its carbon footprint, with the goal of achieving a climate-neutral fleet by 2045. By investing in LNG dual-fuel technology, Hapag-Lloyd aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to a greener shipping industry.
Following the christening ceremony, BANGKOK EXPRESS is set to embark on its maiden voyage, departing for Busan Port, South Korea. As the company continues its transition toward more sustainable shipping solutions, the deployment of LNG-powered vessels marks a significant milestone in Hapag-Lloyd’s journey towards cleaner and more efficient maritime transport.
