Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world’s largest liner, has announced the launch of iReefer, an innovative container monitoring system designed to enhance the tracking and management of temperature-controlled shipments. This cutting-edge technology provides customers with real-time visibility and control over their reefer cargo from anywhere in the world.

MSC has introduced three iReefer service tiers to cater to different customer needs. The iReefer Essential package, available free of charge, offers key features such as shipment history, a detailed container journey log, and graphical data representation. The iReefer Pro package expands upon these capabilities by providing unlimited downloads and access to additional data, including GPS container location tracking. For large-scale shippers, iReefer Ultimate integrates directly with customer systems through an application programming interface (API), ensuring seamless data access. The premium packages will be available starting next month.

As part of its global digitalization initiative, MSC has already connected more than 210,000 reefer containers and equipped over 500 vessels with iReefer technology. Handling over 1 million reefer containers annually, the company aims to deploy this system across its entire fleet in the coming years, aligning with broader industry efforts to enhance supply chain transparency and efficiency through smart container technology.
