SCHOTTEL to Equip Polish MIECZNIK-Class Frigates with Advanced Transverse Thrusters
SCHOTTEL has been selected to supply transverse thrusters for the Polish MIECZNIK-class multi-role frigates, enhancing their manoeuvring performance and operational efficiency. Built by PGZ Stocznia Wojenna, each frigate will feature a shock-enhanced SCHOTTEL TransverseThruster (STT 4), designed to meet the special requirements of naval vessels.
The STT 4 boasts an input power of 925 kW and a propeller diameter of 2.0 meters. This comprehensive propulsion system includes a combined motor and frequency-driven soft starter, offering a complete functional unit from a single source.
Key to these thrusters is the SCHOTTEL LeaCon system, a seal monitoring technology certified by a classification society. This innovative system ensures protection against seawater contamination by operating materials, aligning with stringent environmental regulations. Its design includes separate seals for seawater and the gearbox, with an intermediate chamber to collect any ingress or leakage.
By continuously monitoring seal conditions, LeaCon enables early detection of operational wear, helping to prevent unscheduled maintenance and ensuring high availability during operation. The SCHOTTEL TransverseThruster sets a new standard for reliable and eco-friendly propulsion solutions in modern naval applications.
