Norwegian offshore support company Østensjø has placed an order for a cutting-edge Ocean Energy Support Vessel (OESV) to be constructed at Spain’s Astilleros Gondan shipyard. This new vessel represents a significant advancement in Østensjø’s efforts to modernize and diversify its fleet.

Kristian Helland Vea, CEO of Østensjø Rederi, emphasized the importance of flexibility in the rapidly evolving offshore industry. “Our main goal is to develop a versatile vessel that can serve multiple segments. While the future is uncertain, we are confident this vessel will meet both current and future market needs, ensuring its relevance in the ocean space for many years to come,” Vea stated.

The OESV is designed to handle a wide array of offshore energy operations, including inspection, maintenance, repair, construction, walk-to-work/flotel services, and cable laying. Created by Norway-based Salt Ship Design, the vessel’s 120-meter length and 23-meter beam will allow it to accommodate up to 180 personnel in high-standard daylight cabins.

A key feature of the vessel is its focus on low-emission operations. It will be equipped with a hybrid battery propulsion system and additional energy-saving technologies such as heat recovery systems to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The vessel’s design is also adaptable to future low-carbon technologies.

The OESV is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2027. Østensjø, which currently operates 29 vessels, serves the global offshore energy markets, including offshore wind, oil and gas, towage, and offshore accommodation.

This new vessel will further enhance Østensjø’s capabilities, supporting the company’s mission to stay at the forefront of sustainable and versatile maritime solutions in the offshore energy sector.
