MSC Expands into China with New Ship Management Company and Seafarer Recruitment Drive
MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, the Swiss-based global liner giant, has officially established its first ship management company in China, marking a strategic milestone in its long-term expansion within the Asia-Pacific region.

The newly launched MSC Ship Management (Ningbo) is located in the port city of Ningbo, one of China’s busiest maritime hubs. The company will offer a comprehensive suite of ship management services, including crew recruitment, safety management, and support for green technology integration on MSC vessels—servicing not only ships operating in Chinese waters but also across the global MSC fleet.
As part of this expansion, MSC has announced ambitious plans to recruit more than 2,000 Chinese seafarers by 2026, reinforcing its commitment to developing local maritime talent and strengthening its operational presence in China.
This move comes as global shipping companies continue to diversify crew sourcing strategies while aligning with the industry’s push for greater sustainability and efficiency. By tapping into China’s growing pool of skilled seafarers and investing in local infrastructure, MSC aims to boost both its fleet performance and its contribution to the regional economy.
The establishment of MSC Ship Management (Ningbo) also aligns with the company’s broader vision of reinforcing its global network while adopting next-generation maritime practices, especially in areas of safety, digitalization, and environmental performance.
This development further cements MSC’s status as a leader in the container shipping industry, and reflects its ongoing focus on localized partnerships and global-scale excellence.
