Eni and MSC Unite to Drive Decarbonization
Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi and MSC Group President Diego Aponte have signed a memorandum of understanding to pursue joint initiatives in sustainability and the energy transition, strengthening their long-standing business relationship.

Eni, an integrated energy company targeting carbon neutrality by 2050, and MSC, a global leader in transport and cruise services, will expand their collaboration to support the decarbonization of operations and promote sustainable energy solutions.
The agreement highlights the potential use of LNG, bio-LNG, HVO biofuels, and renewable lubricants for MSC fleets across logistics and cruise services. Additionally, renewable energy solutions will be explored to decarbonize MSC sites and facilities. The partnership will also develop innovative transport methods—integrating sea, rail, and road logistics—to support the production, storage, and transportation of biofuels and Agri feedstocks.
The agreement extends to offshore platform decommissioning, joint research and development, and collaborations within Open-es, Eni’s platform for value-chain sustainability. Circular economy initiatives, such as on-board use of recycled materials, waste management, and the redevelopment of decommissioned assets, are also part of the plan.
Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni, stated: “Reducing emissions across our industrial and economic systems requires collaboration. This partnership with MSC represents a step forward in the decarbonization of transport and cruise services, aligning our shared commitment to cutting emissions and transforming the sector.”
Diego Aponte, MSC Group President, added: “At MSC, our focus is on achieving a successful energy transition, and Eni has been a trusted partner for many years. This MoU allows us to deepen our relationship and work together to develop impactful decarbonization initiatives that align with our goals.”
This collaboration sets a precedent for sustainable transformation in the transportation and cruise industries, leveraging the expertise and resources of both companies to reduce their carbon footprint.
