Methanol-Ready Maersk Eunapolis Delivered by JMU
A methanol-ready 12,800 TEU containership, the Maersk Eunapolis, has been delivered by Japan Marine United (JMU) Corporation at its Kure shipyard. The delivery ceremony for the 140,000 dwt vessel took place on January 17, 2025.

This vessel is the fourth in a series of five 12,800 TEU New Panamax ships ordered in 2022 and constructed for Nissen Kaiun, a Japan-based shipping company. Operated by Maersk, the Eunapolis follows the earlier deliveries of the Maersk El Palomar, Maersk El Banco, and Maersk El Alto in 2024.
The 335-meter-long, 51-meter-wide ship, with a 16-meter draft, is designed for fuel efficiency and environmental performance. JMU highlighted its methanol-ready specifications as a stepping stone toward next-generation fuels.
The ship features a 50% reduction in EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) compared to the reference line, achieved through advanced hull optimization, proprietary energy-saving devices, and rudder designs. Additionally, it complies with SOx scrubber regulations, NOx Tier III standards, and incorporates a shore power connection to eliminate diesel generator use during loading and unloading.
With a capacity for 2,500 refrigerated and frozen containers, the Maersk Eunapolis addresses the rising demand for refrigerated cargo transport. It also meets stringent environmental standards, earning an NK EA+ notation and maintaining a hazardous substance list for safety compliance.
JMU emphasized the vessel’s high loading capacity, fuel efficiency, and environmental performance, calling it a testament to the company’s advanced technology and commitment to sustainability.
The Maersk Eunapolis, flying the Panama flag, is now set to operate under Maersk’s global fleet.
